All Your Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Needs in One Place
Echocardiogram
Purpose: To create detailed images of the heart’s structure and function.
Uses: Diagnoses conditions like heart valve disease, cardiomyopathy, and congenital heart defects. Assesses heart function and detects fluid around the heart (pericardial effusion).
Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG)
Purpose: To record the electrical activity of the heart.
Uses: Diagnoses arrhythmias, heart attacks, and other heart conditions. Monitors heart health in patients with known heart disease and evaluates the effectiveness of treatments.
Cardiac Catheterization
Purpose: To diagnose and sometimes treat cardiovascular conditions.
Uses: Identifies blockages in coronary arteries, measures pressure and oxygen levels in different parts of the heart, and evaluates heart muscle function. Can also be used to perform angioplasty and place stents.
CT Angiography
Purpose: To visualize blood vessels and detect abnormalities.
Uses: Diagnoses coronary artery disease, aneurysms, and pulmonary embolisms. Evaluates blood vessels in various parts of the body, including the brain, neck, and lungs
Stress Test
Purpose: To assess how the heart performs under physical stress.
Uses: Diagnoses coronary artery disease, evaluates exercise tolerance in patients with known heart conditions, and monitors the effectiveness of cardiac treatments. Can be done with exercise or medication to simulate stress.
Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE)
Purpose: To provide detailed images of the heart and its structures.
Uses: Diagnoses heart valve disease, congenital heart defects, and blood clots in the heart. Provides clearer images than a standard echocardiogram, especially useful for patients with obesity or lung disease that may obscure the heart in standard echocardiography.
